I came to James and Brittany in April 2017. I was looking for a trainer who would be supportive, honest and whom I could relate to. Brick House Fitness has fit all of my wants, needs and more. They have helped me realize what works for my body as well as adapt to what it needs, whether it be now or in the future. They are available at any time for any question I might have. Shortly after I came to them, I broke a bone in my foot and they helped to modify my workout so that I could continue on my fitness journey. I have not only lost fat, inches and the insecurity that goes along with it, but I have gained muscle tone, self confidence, and a new found strength that I didn’t know I had.
I do this as a investment, not only for myself, but for my family as well. My youngest daughter told me the other night that she cannot wait until she gets old enough to come with me to the gym. She wants to be strong like her mommy. If she can see the change in me at 5 years of age, I am setting ground work for her to have a healthy future. That alone is immeasurable. James and Brittany are not only amazing trainers, I am proud to call them, and my fellow Brick Houses, my second family.
Exercise is a four letter word. I remember my 50th birthday, though it’s been a while. I’m 6 years post back surgery. I’ve spent those last 6 years afraid to move for fear I’d end up with even more back surgery.
My mother just went thru quintuple bypass surgery. My father didn’t make it that far. He died in his 50’s. Just a couple of years older than I am now.
While sitting at home trying not to worry about all the above I noticed a post by an old friend from high school on Facebook talking about this wonderful exercise class she’d found. A class where there were modifications for things like age, injuries, conditions, etc.
I don’t know what possessed me, but I decided to give it a try. I figured if nothing else I wouldn’t be the only old person in the class, knowing my high school pal was the same age.
I walked in to find all ages, some younger, some older. I seemed to just blend right in.
The instructor, Brittany is knowledgeable, professional, caring and quite frankly adorable! Her first words were, “What issues are you dealing with that I need to know about?” She gave me modifications from the start. I’m not the only person in the class but she manages to give each client one on one instructions. She truly cares.
All exercises are set up in 30 second increments. Her mantra is, “This is your 30 seconds.” When you’re in the room with Brittany, you’re having such fun you don’t realize how hard you’re working.
I decided to sign up and give it a try for a month or so. Eight months later I’m down forty pounds, 6 dress sizes and in the last 3 months alone I’ve lost 8 inches. Do I have the body and energy of a twenty year old? Of course not. But with Brittany in my corner, I’m going to tackle what’s left of my 50’s like a champ!
